CETOL WF 771

Sikkens WF 771 — Enduring Beauty for Mediterranean Wood Inspired by the warmth of the Mediterranean and crafted to withstand its demanding climate, Sikkens WF 771 enhances the natural elegance of wood while providing exceptional, long-lasting protection. This waterborne, translucent premium coating offers the rich character of an oil finish with modern durability. Its one-pot, three-layer system — primer, mid-coat, and top-coat in one — ensures effortless application and consistent performance on both interior and exterior wooden surfaces.

Perfectly suited for Cyprus’s intense sunlight, humidity, and coastal air, WF 771 delivers high UV resistance, vapor permeability, and a non-film-forming, non-flaking finish that allows wood to breathe and retain its natural beauty over time. From façades and pergolas to decking and outdoor structures, Sikkens WF 771 is the ideal solution for projects that demand both timeless aesthetics and reliable endurance.

The WF771 can be used on almost all wooden constructions, but its specially formulated for:

  • Pergolas

  • Cladding

  • Decking

  • Garden furniture

  • Roof structures

  • Wooden structures

  • Log cabins

Preparing the surface

  • The substrates must be dry, free from dust and grease
  • The wood moisture content for the application of Sikkens coating systems should be between 12 % and 15 %.
  • The wood must be sanded properly.

Right application

  • Do not thin the product.
  • Colorless coatings are not suitable for exterior use.
  • Paint application should always be in the direction of wood fibre.
  • Application can be done by dipping, flow-coating, brushing Brushing machine, vacuum coater.
  • Do not overdose the amount applied. The entire amount of paint applied must be absorbed by the substrate, spread / remove the unabsorbed amount
  • Allow to dry completely before applying the next coat. (Drying times vary according to the temperature. More on the TDS below.)
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight.
  • Consumption is 80 – 150 ml/m2, depending on the application method, type and absorbency of the wood (exact values must be determined by trial coating) After the application, the surface must be absolutely free from excess material.

FOR EXTRA PROTECTION

  • Open ends of wood are a weak point for exterior wooden constructions. Seal them with Kodrin WV456 to prevent moisture penetration and damage that occurs in such places.
  • Non-film forming

  • No peeling

  • High UV resistance

  • High water and moisture permeability

  • Quick-drying, water-based formula

  • Easy to apply 1-pot, 3-layer system

  • Time-saving application

  • Flexible application options

  • Wide range of colour options

  • Fills wood pores, preventing early erosion

  • Can be repainted without sanding for easy maintenance

  • Can be combined with WV810 to create a metallic effect

You may see bright colours, but we see optimum top technology. As our standards are high, our objective is to achieve optimum weather resistance, maximum use and an ideal balance between effectiveness and low environmental impact. The result is water-soluble stain systems which protect wood from extreme exposure. Using colours which light up the world. Please consider that darker shades are more weather resistant than light ones. Colorless coatings are not suitable for exterior.

WF 771 can be pigmented according to NEVER ENDING IMPRESSIONS and JOINERY COLOR CLASSICS catalogues, as well as the whole SIKKENS color range. The colors can also be mixed to create entirely new shades. (Examples can be seen in JCC+ catalogue). As the final color can vary depending on the type of wood, thickness applied and conditions, colors must always be checked before use.

The product is tintable and you can find a vast colour suggestions on the links below:

CETOL® WF 771
Where protection meets beauty

Matt, transparent, non-film-forming base, midcoat and topcoat in a one-pot three-layer system.

Is any material better suited to the garden and to terraces than natural wood? Wherever it’s used, wood creates a relaxing ambience and enhances the sense of well-being.

Exterior wood is exposed to extreme stresses. That’s why it requires special protection and care, to keep it looking robust and beautiful and to ensure it doesn’t grey.

CETOL WF 771 is our waterborne coating for especially stressed wood. Available in a range of glistening bright colours, it’s specifically developed to preserve the unique finish and features of wood. The natural matt, non-filmforming stain combines two protective technologies: good moistening of the wood surface without flaking, along with excellent UV and moisture protection.

Self-stratifying® binder

With its two different layers, the self-stratifying binder ensures good adhesion as well as protection against UV light and moisture.

HOW TO PREPARE
THE SUBSTRATE

For new wood

If the wood shows possible traces of resin, fat residue or sawing errors, the horizontal surfaces (e.g. for decking) should be highpressure washed. Sawing errors can be sanded.

For freshly sawn wood

With freshly sawn wood, a certain amount of time is required for drying before fitting. With boiler pressure impregnated wood, any residual moisture should be checked before coating. For storage, distance beams should be arranged between each stack of wood to ensure unobstructed air circulation between the planks. In moist surroundings, the wood should be covered. You should also remove any possible traces of resin, fat residue and sawing errors, as above.

For pre-treated wood

If the wood has been pre-treated, such as sanding, bleaching with TSP (sodium triphosphate), or oxalic acid treatment, please contact the supplier of the wood for information regarding the compatibility of the protective system used, as well as for any health and environmental protection tips.

For wood with limited durability

For woods with limited durability (below classes 4 and 5 of DIN EN 350), an appropriate impregnation is required. Such woods include the European larch and Douglas firs, such as fir or spruce. For this we recommend our CETOL WP 567 BPR or CETOL WP 5000-02 impregnation.

HIGHLY EFFECTIVE ON ALL TYPES OF WOOD

– Coniferous woods such as pine, spruce, larch

– Tropical woods such as pipe, bangkirai, meranti, teak

–  Hardwoods such as oak

– Boiler pressure impregnated wood

– Modified woods such as accoya (not for decking) or thermally modified wood

IT’S EASY TO COAT
WITH CETOL WF 771

Correct application

–  The entire quantity of paint applied must be absorbed by the substrate

– Always apply the coating in the direction of the wood grain

– Allow the surface to dry thoroughly after the base and midcoat

– CETOL® WF 771 should be applied at a surface temperature range of 15° to 25° Celsius

–  Wood moisture content of between 12% and 15% is ideal for coating

– Heavily weathered wood should be sanded before the first coating

– Evenly apply the CETOL WF 771 stain

PLEASE AVOID THE FOLLOWING

During application

– Avoid direct sunlight during application
– Avoid dew formation or a moist climate
– Avoid wood humidity of more than 18%
– Do not overdose – avoid the formation of puddles

For terrace furniture

To ensure decking is completely dried, wait at least
seven days after coating before setting up terrace furniture

EXTRA PROTECTION FOR END GRAIN

The service life of decking and facade cladding significantly increases with the right protective treatment. The open ends of the wood are a particular weak point where microcracks can occur due to water seepage, swelling and drying out. KODRIN® WV 456 is a waterborne, quick-drying sealant that seals the end grain, protecting it from moisture penetration and damage. It can be directly applied to damaged areas after a primer coat of CETOL WF 771.
